Consider it Literature

Literature is a writing in which expression or forms are shown through the use of words in different ways such as through novels, drams and poetry. Literature could be objective or subjective, objective in this case is something that text wants to attain and subjective will be pertaining to or the characteristics of an individual.
Allan Moore's novel "Light of thy Countenance" is definitely considered as literature even though its short and graphic. Shortness of the text never depicts whether it should be considered as literature, rather it's the depth of the text that made it fall in this category. This novel is not that simple fun comic book about TV instead it shows the reader how far television has gone today. Alan Moore's uses various time frames through which TV went and how does it became so much important part of our life that we are spending more time with it then with our loved one's. Basically Moore's is trying to say that TV has become god to us that we always follow and believe what we see on it. Pictures in this novel tells about it more than the actual text because it shows where does it had more effect. As the novel progress reader's see how impact of TV is increasing and also instead of telling us in a text that to show different time frames where TV went through various changes Moore's actually extensively used images such as during world wars it was actually used little so author used bombs pictures and during the ears of 1920's when companies used it for advertising we actually get images of actors doing adds on TV. I think this novel has everything that text needs to consider as literature it has deep meaning to it which reader gets from both the text and images. Moore's used personification by giving TV human characteristics in this novel which is great way to show how it is effecting our relationship especially some people's private life.
Moore's novel is showing the impact of the technology in our lives like RUR by Carl Kapek in which people let robots be the major part of their life but later robots were the one's who destroyed the human race. It's not like TV's going to destroy us but it surely promote some harmful ideas. So this novel actually teach people about the technology which I think already passed it as a literary merit novel.

West vs East in "M Butterfly" by David Henry Hwang

The play "M Butterfly" by David Henry Hwang depicts the characteristics of both west and east but in different ways. West as more of masculine, strong and trying to take control of everything but East as feminine and weak always listen to what westerner say. West is always considered as a most powerful empire from last few centuries and most of the oldest colonies controlled by the west existed in east such as Britain ruled over India and its surrounding countries for like two centuries and they did everything they could to destroy their vast cultural diversities.
But everything that's happening in this play is opposite of this as Song is from east and she has complete control over Gallimard. she took advantage of this westerner behavior always thinking themselves as superior and she tries to maintain this level of supremacy in her relationship with Gallimard as their relationship progresses and also made Gallimard think that he is the one who is controlling everything or dominating. But instead Song built so much affection between them that she insisted Gallimard to pass out every bit of information to her from U.S army activities in Vietnam. I am not doubting Gallimard or westerner whether or not he knew when he met Song that he was man even though they had sex many times and even Song quoted in his lines "he must've felt around?"(81). I think Gallimard was in true love which was not common in white people from West who usually married to a girl to full fill their lust and then they left them alone with some money so that they can catch fish from another pond as describe by Pinkerton in his quotes "When I leave, she'll know what it's like to have loved a real man. And I'll even buy her a few nylons"(6). So I think East in this described as growing force which knows how to work its way through powerful west this also signifies that East is tired of West supremacy describing them as weak and tries to come out as new power.

Recognizing internet pattern in "Pattern Recognition" by William Gibson

In "Pattern Recognition" by William Gibson, social network plays an important role in Cayce life as all the information she got even the small clue to reach up to Stella she got it with the help of her friends on her forum such as parkaboy and even her mom is not physically present in this novel because we don't get any direct dialogue from her mother all we know about her is from her emails sent to Cayce so we can say social network or internet help Cayce to be closer to her mom and tells reader what is going on between them. Even though Cayce doesn't like to read her mother emails because she always reminds her of her father and whether he died or not in September 11 attack . "He took a duck in the face, clossing her eyes./eventually she has to open her"(184) this quote of Cayce describes her attitude towards her mother and it signifies that internet helps their family bond to remain strong as if there would have been no email then they wouldn't have any contacts between them.
Another great example of social network in this novel is that it brings people from different and far away places closer it acts like a dryer because if you put clothes in dryer they start shrinking so I think in same way it shrink down the whole world. Cayce used forum in this novel as it is her body part and try to check her emails on every possible time she can get. Most of the information she gets in this novel is with the help of emails which parkaboy sends her everyday sitting in Chicago. Now the question arises from this is that how does she trust parkaboy as they never saw each other except at the end of this novel but she still believe in him more than the people around her. This amazed me when I just started reading the novel and made me doubt her trusting skills but at the end I was astonished to see that Cayce was right because all the people around her betrayed her and parkaboy instead stayed with her and ultimately Cayce ended up with him.
So we can say that social network is main thing with which all the knots are tied and Cayce uses that to find out about the mystery behind that segment. she even contacted Stella and Nora though the email she received and I think communication through their emails brought them so closer that Stella even invited her to meet with her sister even though that posses threat to Stella family "From anyone who might wish to use us to hurt him. You must understand, these precautions are not unusual, for a man like my uncle"(p307). Stella came to know more about Chayce through internet and she also finds out that chayce lost her father in terrible accident much like they lost their parents during bombing and ultimately Stella felt like Chayce is also one of them so at last she lets chacye to meet Nora.

Confusing cybernatic world "Pattern Recognition"

In "Pattern recognition" by William Gibson , mystery and/or spy genre of fiction fits this novel as it is full of mystery. As the novel starts there is a famous F:F:F web add going around on internet which is creating a lot of tension betwenn various companies and getting a lot of public attention. Blue ant hired chayce as a consultant but later offered her a job to find out who is behind all this add and why are they making it which is completely mysterious and even throw off Chayce because she didn't know why are they giving her this job and what it is? On the other hand Chayce also finds out that someone is sneaking in Damien's house to get information about her personal stuff which she mainly think is Dorotea. Furthermore Chayce own work habits are confusing which she clearly not yet told, sometimes she likes her job aspects but some times she completely hated it as she describes her personal hate against some of the trademarks and logo which surprisingly Dorotea also know about and Chayce quoted it in these line "I'm allergic. To certain trademarks/I know she does"(p164). As Chayce went to Tokyo with her friend Boone chu to find out who made F:F:F add that got such high sensation with the help of her friends from her social network site. As she was working there, she finds out that someone is following her to know about her every step which puzzles me that what Chayce knows that everyone want to know. Then when they come back to London Boone Chu tries to get answer from Bigend because he think Bigend is the one who sent those men's behind Chayce this creates the feeling of something fishy as if Bigend is the one who sent those men's but then why did he send Chayce in first place and if he didn't trust her than why did he offer her partnership in his company this story is just revolving around in a circle. After listening to Boone Chu, Bigend start asking Chayce about her trip to get every piece of info from her which ultimately makes her not to trust Bigend because of his change in behavior. So there is lot of trust issue going on and which creates a sense that Gibson is trying to convey a message that science changes the way people behaves and also increases competition.
Internet and the prospects of online social networks
Internet plays a major role in this novel in setting up plot and in transferring of information from one character to another character. Chayce trusted more parkaboy then any of her reality friends whom she met face to face. Even though she had never seen parkaboy and don't know who he is she trusted him and even followed his every piece of advice. Email also act as a tool to bring long distance relationships closer as when Damien send her a email of what's going with him in Russia when Chayce is in London it sort a feels like internet had shrunk the world and even it helps to travel information faster even though you are sitting miles away from your friend. Cayce in this novel frequently used forum to check what's going on her field of work and her recent updates from her social network friends especially from parkaboy. So we can see there are lots of things going on which revolves around Internet and we can also say that Internet act as linkage between various mysterious characters of this novel.

"A Rose For Emily" from different point of view

If "A Rose For Emily" by William Faulkner's is to be narrated in first person singular point of view then reader's perspective and way to look at this poem will also change because now reader knows what one person thinks about Miss Emily rather then how whole town thinks about her. According to me this can bring some drastic changes in the chronological order as before narrator of the story tries to educate reader what this story is about by giving some details about Miss Emily death in opening paragraph. But if same story will be written by Tobe point of view who is Miss Emily servant it would have been started by giving some description of who he his, what's his job was and who he was working for? After that Tobe would have given phyical characteristics of Miss Emily how she looks and what's she does everyday rather than pressuring reader to figure it out what she did in her house alone having no one to share her feelings except her servant. In part 3,4 and 5 original narrator just saw glimpses of Miss Emily coming out of the house and buy some stuff from a drug store from which town people thought that she want to kill herself by drinking poison, reader concludes this from the way narrator describes it but instead if Tobe narrates it he would have given reader clear reason why Miss Emily bought it may be there was really problem of rats in her house as later in the story Tobe was the one who brought that rat poison from the store. So we can say according to Tobe point of view meaning of this story and Miss Emily lifestyle would have become more visible rather than being mystical throughout the story.
As from Homer point of view, he can help us to know more about Miss Emily love and soft side because it was impossible to know it from town's people as all of them have different view about her and they tend to fluctuate throughout the story as they interact more with Miss Emily. Other than that Homer could have help us as a reader to know what's going on in the house as they start living together as this could be the one of the aspect that would have been same for Homer and Tobe. But Homer come later in her life so I think Tobe point-of-view will be better to narrate this story because he lived with her for greater time of period and he knows how she think and reacts. He could have been more helpful telling reader how healthy was the relationship between Miss Emily and Homer and also may be helpful in giving some reasons how she died because in the end of this story he just left the house I think this is because Miss Emily may had told him to go away or he is free to go any where without telling someone how she died.

"ALL Watched Over By Machines Of Loving Grace" by Richard Brautigan

In the poem ALL Watched Over By Machines Of Loving Grace by Richard Brautigan poet is trying to be sarcastic about scientific technology because in all the stanzas he is favoring science by writing positive effects about it and how it will change things once it start playing role in our everyday life. But in every second line of each stanza poet changes the tone of the poem from positive to negative as in second line of first stanza poet wants to say that science only gives pleasure for small time after that it start showing its characteristics because nothing good comes out form it whenever man tries to play with it. Also poet is describing how it will help to promote harmony in nature as we can see all around us what type harmony poet is talking about “where mammals and computers live together in mutually programming harmony”(4-5). In the end of first stanza poet use simile to compare harmony advertise by science to the pure water as we can see that all the invention that science brought in for our comfort produce pollution which in turn polluting our natural resources so I think poet is trying to tell us that even though we see science as useful now but in future we are going to be devastated by its work and results.
Poet also had post technology tone and message in this poem, I think whole poem is filled with positive things about technology such as what’s going to happen when science start reaching in our regular life and how much it can make us free. In every stanza except his sarcastic second lines he used scientific terminology with calm and peaceful words to show how science going to promote harmony in nature. In the last stanza as poet say that science and machines going to handle our day to day work that it going to make us free from many responsibility and will let us go back to the nature and admire its beauty “where we are free of our labors and joined back to nature”(20-21). Poet even mentioned about living with mammals and other animals who are our ancestors, according to him this will bring us closer to each other while machines are watching us and other things which signifies science effect is that machines are going to control everything.
According to me poet is siding more toward anti-technology because I think he is trying to be ambiguous when he describes positive things which science going to bring in nature which actually corresponds to all negative results. That’s why poet wrote every second line of each stanza in present right now which shows the reader that science inventions are just good for small period of time and are going to have bad effects in future. In last stanzas where he describes all people and animals living together but in lines(24-25) “and all watched over by machines of loving grace” poet is saying that everything that we will try to do machines are going to watch us which is kind a understatement that poet made in these lines, I think this means that machines will start controlling every aspect of our lives and by loving grace poet means to say that what we thought is helpful to human nature will change its course and will dominate the whole world.

CASABIANCA BY FELICIA DOROTHEA HEMANS

Imgery: flames, burning deck, shots, fires, thunder, waving hair and heroic.

In the poem Casabianca poet Felicia Dorothea Hemans uses Imagery to describe the bravery of the little kid who is waiting on his father last words and is afraid to abandon the ship without his father which he thinks is worse than dying in the flames. Even though poet used different types of imagery in this poem but she tried to focus more on visual and auditory imagery by describing a bloody battle pf ships in the sea.
In the first stanza poet just described boy’s physical location on the ship and how flames are covering the whole ship all around him which is a great example of visual imagery including burning deck, battle‘s wreck and flames and it shows that how much that child is suffering through just to listen to his father. Then again in second stanza poet shows the reader all the heroic characteristics of this little child standing alone in flames to find his father who is just lost in other dead bodies on the ship and poet described child qualities in these lines, “As born to rule the storm; A creature of heroic blood, A proud, though childlike form (line 6-8).”

According to me I think these are examples of tactile images which touch the hearts of its readers and make them to think that he is not any cowardly boy, he is a child with the heart of a brave man. Poet continues to evoke readers senses through the use of auditory imagery too, when she wrote that how little boy yelled out aloud so that his father can hear him “He called aloud--” aloud in this line is not just a word comes out from boys mouth with force but it was accompanied with his last remaining hopes, that’s why I think poet left two hyphen after aloud. But sound of the gun over powered his voice which the poet describes “And but the booming shots replied (line 19).” It is also a great example of auditory image. Even though he fell down on the board due to gun shots, he didn’t stop calling his father and at last flames covered his whole body which poet described by using simile in these lines, “And streamed above the gallant child, Like banners in the sky (lines 31-32).”
In her last two lines she summed up all the most important thing of this poem that is bravery and never leave loved one’s behind or someone with a deep attachment like in this poem young kid just stood their like a stone for his father without having any fear of flames that could turn him into ashes and they did too at the end but main thing in here is that poet wants to show little kid courage and how much he was determined to ask his father first before abandoning the ship which obviously any father will say yes but I think he want to see if his father is still alive.
